Ongoing research & Projects
PhD research (in collaboration with Uni. Witten-Herdecke D.) on the effect of heating and electromagnetic (GSM) radiation on D30 ultra diluted and succussed homeopathic Tin preparations. In this first of five articles, we report on the reproducibility of specific biological effects of an ultramolecular homeopathic Tin D30 preparation (nominal dilution 10-30 of the original substance). These ground-breaking results point to a promising potential of the method to contribute to basic homeopathic research, as well as to the homeopathic practise of companies. Read the article >
GESTE project (Gestalt Evaluation and Structure Evaluation)
To what extent can an empathetic attitude in the visual evaluation of crystallisation images be used, strengthened and (scientifically) communicated? The first article of this project was published in 2018: Advanced panel training on visual Gestalt evaluation of biocrystallization images: ranking wheat samples from different extract decomposition stages and different production systems. In this article we demonstrate how a trained visual evaluation panel (standardized according to adapted ISO-norms of sensory panels) is able to systematically distinguish coded crystallisation images of wheat samples from conventional, organic and biodynamic origin, by means of an empathetic attitude. Apparently, upon ageing of the wheat extracts, the crystallisation images of biodynamic cultivation, and to a lesser extent of biological cultivation, are able to maintain their crystallisation structure better than wheat samples of conventional origin.
PROPAR Project (PROcesses and PARameters)
This project focuses on the further development of the crystallisation fingerprint method into a scientifically recognized method for assessing food quality. The first article of this project was published in 2018: Influence of dewetting on the crystallization behavior or CuClâ‚‚ in the presence of BSA during evaporation in a Petri dish. This publication highlights the physical principle and preconditions of the crystallisation process.
Publication book Full of life, a plea for vital food.
Authors Paul Doesburg (Crystal Lab) and Petra Essink.
Is nutrition nothing more than a collection of compounds? That's a too simplistic approach. This book advocates a life-inclusive view of nutrition, and could radically change your ideas about healthy food! Because it matters whether you eat vitamin C or an orange! The essence is that vitality has a relationship with resilience and authenticity of our food. This insight makes it possible to approach the question - is organic healthier? - in a whole new way!
X-ray detection in the food industry; determining the effect of X-ray radiation on the germination of cress seeds. 2014
X-ray detection methods are increasingly used in the food industry for the detection of foreign particles in packaged foods and beverages. Evaluation of the impact on food products has however been limited to compound analyses. This project focusses on determining the effect of X-ray radiation on germinating cress seeds by means of the biocrystallization method.
This project is part of the BSc. thesis of J.A. Zandbergen Wageningen University, in collaboration with Crystal Lab (download pdf thesis 2.9Mb).

Development of a biocrystallisation method for examining effects of homeopathic preparations on germinating cress seeds. 2009-2011 (download pdf 2.5Mb)
The development of a biocrystallisation test system to determine the effects of homeopathic potencies. For this purpose crystallization images of cress seedlings are made that germinated in various D30 homeopathic potencies.
This project was conducted in collaboration with the Institute of Complementary Medicine KIKOM, University of Bern (CH), Biodynamic Research Association Denmark (DK), Hiscia Institute, Arlesheim (CH), Muvara (NL).
