Image analysis

Within the Triangle consortium image analysis software has been developed which allows us to determine the statistical significance of observed differences in the crystallisation images.

The scanned crystallisation images are subjected to two different image analysis approaches:

  • Texture image analysis, this allows us to determine the frequency at which different combinations of pixel gray levels appear in an image (analysis at the level of repetitive motifs in the crystallisation image).
  • Structure analysis, in which the distribution of different morphological structures within the crystallisation image can be quantified (analysis of simple structures, see figure on the right).

Example of a structure analysis characterization of a crystallisation image.
